The Project
This project is a truly amazing, show-stopping two-building development which formed part of a brand-new overall garden transformation. The goal was to create the ultimate sanctuary for the client to enjoy with his family, but also with one eye on his retirement & welness, the brief required a dual-purpose facility: a fully equipped gym space for fitness, and a luxurious wellness suite for relaxation.
The vision included a traditional sauna, a steam room, an adjacent shower room, and a practical kitchenette area. The wider garden design was equally ambitious, featuring a jaw-dropping traditional 11 x 5 metre Roman-tiled swimming pool surrounded by Italian porcelain paving, alongside a fantastic gazebo complete with an integrated outdoor kitchen. This project was truly unique in its scale and finish one that the entire Bakers team was thrilled to bring to life.
The Buildings
We began the project by handling the planning permission process, as the client desired additional height to create a spacious feel while maximising the permitted footprint of 30 square metres. To achieve this, we designed two 6x5 metre buildings positioned in a tandem layout, cleverly linking them with a connecting corridor to create a seamless flow between the zones.The first building serves as the dedicated gym. It features Tri-sliding doors that take full advantage of the additional height allowed by planning, flooding the space with light alongside a show-stopping Em-Glaze roof light. It allows for a professional-grade workout environment right at home.
Linking the two main structures is a light-filled corridor that houses a useful kitchen space, bathed in amazing natural light. This leads into the second building: the wellness suite. Also 6x5 metres, this structure houses a stunning steam room and a beautiful traditional hot rock sauna. Adjacent to these is a changing room and shower, as well as a discreet plant room. This neat addition hides all the swimming pool equipment and garden electrics, ensuring the aesthetics of the garden remain clutter-free. Both buildings are finished with the quality you expect from Bakers, including our full ten-year guarantee. The exteriors are clad in durable MTX cladding painted in Anthracite, paired with aluminium doors and UPVC windows for all-year-round peace of mind and low maintenance.
The Finer Details
It is often the small details that elevate a great project to a world-class one, and this build is packed with high-specification features. In the gym, the space is fully kitted with Technogym equipment and features a bespoke wall mirror that has a precision cut-out for an integrated TV, allowing for entertainment while exercising. The immersive experience is further enhanced by integrated Sonos speakers and a full climate control system for heating and cooling.
The wellness suite is equally impressive. The steam room features stunning tiling and atmospheric LED wash lighting, creating a spa-like ambience. The traditional hot rock sauna is fitted with special protective glass and stunning integrated blinds, offering both privacy and style. Additional em-Glaze roof lighting was installed here as well, spreading further natural light into the sauna and steam areas.
The Garden Design
The surrounding garden has been beautifully landscaped to complement the buildings, anchored by the feature 11 x 5 metre Roman-tiled swimming pool supplied by Roman Pools. To create the ultimate entertainment zone, a stunning garden gazebo supplied by Caribbean Blinds was installed. This features integrated blinds on three sides, allowing for use in all weathers. Inside the gazebo sits a fully fitted outdoor kitchen supplied by Grillo Outdoor Kitchens and a TV. This impressive setup includes a built-in gas grill, a Grillo Gusto Kamado BBQ, and a fridge. With ample counter space and storage, it allows for effortless preparation and enjoyment of alfresco dining. These elements ensure the garden serves as a versatile entertainment space that the client and his family can enjoy for many years to come.
