What is climate control?  

One of the main benefits of a garden room is that it allows you to spend time in your garden, regardless of the weather outside. When it is cold outside, you want to be nice and cosy inside your garden room. Likewise, when it is extremely hot outside, it is nice to be able to spend time inside a cool room.  

The term ‘climate control’ refers to the ways that we control the climate inside a building or room. The principal idea of climate control is that we have artificial control of air temperature, humidity and movement.

This has always been the main focus, as climate control units are a considerable investment. Previously, we recommended that if you were only looking for heating in the winter there were far more cost-effective convector heaters and oil filled radiators that would do that job. However, this has changed with the increase in availability of air source heat pumps.  

What is an air source heat pump? 

Air source heat pumps are an amazingly efficient way of heating and cooling a room. An air source heat pump is a clever type of heating that works a bit like a fridge freezer, but in reverse. Heat is absorbed from the outside air and compressed to reach a higher temperature. That lovely warm air is then transferred around your garden building using a unit that is installed on a wall.  

As there is no heating element in a climate control unit, they are one of the most cost-effective ways of electrically heating your house or garden studio. For every pound you spend you will get back between 3.5 to 4 times the heat that you would out of a traditional electric heater.  

Additionally in the summertime, this air source heat pump can supply cold air to circulate around your garden room.

Once installed, you can get up to seven years of warranty with an air source heat pump including an annual service. Most air source heat pumps come with an app that enables you to set the perfect temperature in the room day and night, whilst making it as efficient as possible.  

With electricity costs being so high and installed climate control units available from around £1500 upwards, it really is worth considering the investment of these units.
